After some time developing the project, we finally launch archienemy aperiodic magazine. We hope you enjoy it and decide to contribute to it, either by sending architectural projects and articles, or by participating in the contests and awards that we will publish soon.
Archienemy is born from the need to counterbalance a whole “architectonic system” that is too well supported by the structures of power around us: media, university, politics, etc. In this magazine, we do not mean to theorize or rethink architecture itself. On the contrary, our main goal is to create a free and diverse debate in which we reflect about the already mentioned structures of power that support the current system and therefore architecture nowadays.
We, the “other” architects, are the group of, in words of philosopher Michel Foucault, the excluded, the deviants of architecture, those who were never quite totally assimilated in this global “hipsterized” model in which the system wants to include all architects.
The other architects are those who did not have rich parents who allowed us to work for free in a prestige studio so we could improve our curricula.
We are the architects who do not follow, who do not want to follow the established roads of the capitalist system, but who want to create our own roads, our own illusions in life, illusions beyond a life sitting in front of a computer developing spectacular and elegant projects while we stack up in smaller and smaller dwellings. We are the architects who are there, even if you don’t see us, in silence, working in studios, not claiming much attention, resisting an unfair, decadent system that pushes us to forget our illusions and try to fit in a consumerist lifestyle that we find defective.
The other architects are also the other lawyers, the other workers, the other farmers, the other engineers, the other philosophers, the other notaries, the other technicians, the other doctors… summing up, the others. We are those who prove that there is another way of seeing things, the critical, uncomfortable side, the side that is not in conformity with the status quo, the side that resists and will keep resisting becoming a perfect piece of this great machinery from the current capitalist system.
